THE T JUNCTION COMMUNITY CAFE
The kitchen is currently operating as a takeaway only service due to current restrictions.
During the Covid 19 pandemic our volunteers wanted to support residents who were shielding, furloughed or otherwise vulnerable. Operating as a satellite site from Pact House we set up a food bank which was open 4 days each week, distributing produce that would otherwise be food waste. We quickly realised that we could support more people if we cooked with the produce instead, so we began cooking. However, the nature of the food donations and the local need meant that we were struggling to meet the demand. To continue supplying the ready cooked meals we applied for and were awarded a grant from Stanley AAP to purchase ingredients. These ingredients supplemented the fresh produce donations, allowing us to cook appetising meals and soon we were delivering over 50 main course meals and deserts every day.
In August, as the lockdown restrictions eased and the fresh produce was not as plentiful, we secured a small pot of funding to subsidise the meals allowing the provision to continue for a longer time.
Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday we are open from 10am until 2pm and serve food until 1.30pm
We offer a ‘Daily Special’ 2 course meal for only £3 with a different main meal and a desert every.
We also make a Soup of the Day, freshly made and served with a bread bun for £2.50, Bacon or Sausage Sandwiches for £1.50 and a range of home-baked cakes and scones.
Please see our notice board, Facebook page or give us a ring for details of our Daily Menu and to place an order.
